Maintenance of flat screens with traditional products (incl. water)
is, on the long term, ALWAYS bad or even disastrous.

Important characteristics of cleaning products

Consequences, especially with flat screens

Dissolved with (regular) water

Dull / less bright screens – gradual ‘chalking’ of the coatings – Irrepairable

Chemical, sour and/or alcohol components to dissolve dirt.

Damaging / destroying of the sensitive coatings. Characteristic: ‘holes’/ scratches and or stripes over the screen: Irrepairable.

High conductivity / low resistance (almost all products)

Corrosion / short circuit (especially flat screens have the risk of ‘incoming’ moisture) Characteristic: partial or complete screen fall out. Irrepairable.

No components to protect the cleaned surfaces

Faster filthiness than without cleaning. Aging of coatings. Characteristics: too filthy to clean, yellowing; hair scratches.

Other damages of flat screens

Reason / Solution

Pixel fall out (various pictures or rows (often fixed  patterns) and/or short circuit.

Except for out-of-box failures = warranty claim, caused by cleaning with unsuited product (see above)

Finger / thumb / hand prints (often larger areas with stripes – irregular)

Except when it is ‘greasy’, most often caused by too hard pushing on the screen (handling but also cleaning) causing damages to the underlying structures: irrepairable.

Finger prints (other than greasy – cannot be removed)

Touching of the screen with dirty fingers which damage a coating. Coating dissolves partially locally. Irrepairable.
